There is this sketch from the popular IFC television show, Portlandia, where a mock Pitchfork staff shuts down the site after some musical happening causes them to say everything that can, and will, ever be said about music.

Ladies and Gentleman, this is that moment in real life. A summation of this article that hit the web yesterday would be completely unfair. Tidbits of information simply will not do this piece justice. In case you missed it, we are talking about the interview between music moguls Rick Rubin and Diplo, although most times it isn’t clear who is doing the interviewing. They flip flop asking each other questions, including joking around about working with stars like Madonna, and all of it is just pure gold.

If you are unfamiliar with the roots of Florida born-Philadelphia raised Thomas Wesley Pentz, the DJ formerly known as Diplodocus, or are still busy hating on his ego, you need to read this piece. It solidifies his status as an icon of this bizarre musical generation we have found ourselves in, and shows us how Diplo just gets it. He gets it more than anyone has ever gotten anything.

The most astonishing, mind-blowing part of this interview, is Diplo talking about his days in Philadelphia, and how he got his start with all of this in the 1990’s, when some of you were just being born. Anyone who hasn’t ever listened to the Hollertronix mixtapes, particularly Never Scared, doesn’t know d*ck about dance music. This revolution started with him, and he has been in front of the game since before any of us were playing.

Plus, the bit about Skrillex will literally move you to tears. These guys are so spot on about everything.
