The dubstep dino known as Excision is back with a brand new 11 track album titled, “Codename X.” One thing is for certain, is that Excision does not stray far from his roots, and that’s not a bad thing. He has mastered the art of bass and can dance around it like a true dub-maestro. Each song on the album has a certain amount of heaviness, but varies a bit from the one before it.
“Float Away” seems to be the most melodic track on the album, and it sounds like something that Bassnectar would play out in one of his live shows. I think what is most prevalent in a lot of Excision tracks is the growling vocal right before a righteous drop. It’s most prevalent in “Codename X” and “Out Of Time.” The latter features Splitbreed almost screaming “Time’s up” right before the drop. Something reminiscent of ‘Triple X-Rated‘
It’s full of collaborators such as Downlink, Space Laces and Pegboard Nerds.
The album is packed full of heavy guitar riffs, and loud drums that have made Excision into one of the most coveted bass superstars.
