Lets get this out of the way right now, I am an Eagle Scout (ladies, line up to the left), so this really pisses me off. One of Burning Man’s main rules is that the Burners leave no trace on The Playa after they head home to the real world. This year, apparently, that rule was pretty lax, as there is an estimated 5000 (!!!) bikes abandoned there. The most popular method of transportation through the festival ground is fine and dandy, environmentally friendly and healthy, right up until the point the burners trash them and leave a heap of metal and plastic for someone else to clean up. One instagram user caught the carnage in a photo that really sums up what 5000 bikes left by dusty burners looks like:
You can preach peace and love to the earth all you want, but if you leave trash behind, your words mean next to nothing. I personally hope that this is cleaned up by now, and that something is in place next year so this can’t happen again. [End Rant]
