Mexican Cartel Claims Responsibility for BPM Festival Shooting

This is getting uglier by the minute.

Not too long after Playa Del Carmen banned all future electronic music festivals – it seems that a drug cartel from Mexico has claimed responsibility for the gruesome attack.

A photo uploaded by Semanario Playa News shows a blanket with some writing on it – a common way of sending mass messages by cartels across the country.

Translation

“This is a sign that we are already here. It was for not aligning Phillip BPM. It is the beginning we will cut the heads of Golfos, Pelones and “grasshoppers”. “El Fayo” Z Old School”

Golfos and Pelones are gangs and grasshoppers are people that jump from gang to gang.  Four of these blankets appeared in various areas around the city before being quickly taken down. It seems that the area used to be held by the Pelones and Golfos, but now that the Zetas want to take control, it could become a whole different area. Whatever happens, I think we can all hope that no more blood is shed.
