Electronic Festivals Banned in Playa Del Carmen in Wake of BPM Shooting

The Mayor of Playa Del Carmen has banned all future electronic festivals in Playa Del Carmen following the tragic shooting at BPM Festival, where five people died and many more were injured. The ban encompasses any future festivals already planned, including the upcoming Arena Festival. “We want these types of events to go,” Mayor Torres Gómez announced in a press conference. “We won’t allow one more.”

While there is wild speculation that the shootings are tied to drug cartels, the government has issued a report that the incident stemmed from a conflict between security and a man attempting to bring a gun into the club. Whatever the reason for the shooting, it’s a horribly tragic event for the families and friends of the victims, the city of Playa Del Carmen, and the electronic music community as a whole.
