Chicago’s legendary Lollapalooza is coming! If you are like me, you have have been counting the days down to a beautiful three days in Downtown Chicago. Well planning your weekend just got a lot easier, because they just announced their official after parties that span venues all across the city. Due to sound ordinances, Lollapalooza is forced to shut down the music at 10 P.M. sharp, but don’t worry, these afterparties can take you into the wee hours of the morning.
For those wanting to start your weekend off early, you can head to The Mid on Thursday July 31 and get your dancing feet warmed up with Cash Cash. They were rocketed into the scene after remixing fellow Lollapalooza performer Krewella’s hit ‘Alive.’
If the first day of Lollapalooza doesn’t wear you out enough, you can hop on the Red Line and get over to the Aragon Ballroom, and catch Disclosure. Get your tickets to this one fast, because it will be your only chance to catch Disclosure all weekend since they are not performing at the fest. If Disclosure isn’t your cup of tea, you have two amazing opportunities to catch some hot ticket artists at intimate venues.
The Glitch Mob will be headlining The Mid, performing a DJ set. A set that will no doubt be very different from their live set that they are currently touring with in support of their new album. For those under 21 years of age, you can head on over to Concord Music Hall to catch a Lowtemp Music showcase featuring Gramatik, Russ Liquid, and Herobust. A lineup very similar to Gramatik’s Chicago New Year’s Eve show, except at a smaller venue. And that’s only Friday’s aftershow showcase.
Saturday night the party keeps on raging as 17 year old, worldwide phenomenon Martin Garrix headlines The Aragon Ballroom in only his second Chicago show. Hip-h0p heads will be packing in Double Door tight and be singing along to Run The Jewels’ set. The duo made up of El-P and Killer Mike played Pitchfork Music Festival last year in an amazing hip-hop outing.
The beauty of aftershows is being able to see some artists that are playing the festival in more intimate settings. Wicker Park’s Subterranean will be hosting RAC with Lindsay Lowend, two up and coming artists that are producing amazing tracks day in and day out. Concord Music Hall will host Australian sensation Flume with Duke Dumont also on the bill.
It’s Sunday. Are you still alive? You better be, because there’s even more shows. House Of Blues locked up the legendary Nas with Chicago local rapper Vic Mensa on the bill. Any fans of hip-hop should be jumping on this ticket, because seeing a legend like Nas in such a small venue, is unheard of. If you have any energy left that you need to dance away, then head back over to Concord Music Hall and try to survive Skrillex and Gesaffelstein in what is sure to be an amazing show. I can’t even begin to imagine all the genres that will be heard that night.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 6th at 10 a.m. sharp. I would be quick to jump on those, because the festival itself sold out in record time this year!
The complete schedule for aftershows can be found here, and all information on Lollapalooza can be found directly on their website.
