Summer is here and in full effect, and since we last spoke with Headphone Activist he has moved across the county, had a major release with Mr. Suicide Sheep, and booked a solid summer tour.
We have been working close with HPA for the past year now and we are excited to see how far his project has gone in such a short amount of time.
We caught up with him this past week to talk about his the move, his upcoming festival run and what he has in store for the rest of 2016.
RTT: So hows 2016 been for you so far ?
HPA: It’s been good, spending most of my time in my studio. Writing new music and diving in to sound design. I have more unreleased music now then I know what to do with.
RTT: that’s a good problem to have, can you speculate on the sound you are developing atm.
HPA: for sure, I have been writing alot of piano and classical influenced music lately, I picked up this vst called Omnisphere at the start of the year. The program offers a really clean take on sound design, from organic to electronic, I have had a blast learning how it works and am enjoying writing more music from the ground up. I suggest anyone who is into writing music to check out Omnisphere.
RTT: Interesting, so will you be bring any of this new music on your tour ?
HPA: Definitely, my main goal for this run is to showcase new music before it goes online and music that will never leave my laptop. Also im stoked to be sharing stages with XXYYXX, Troyboi, Hermitude. and many more talented artists. So I want to bring something special and new to each of the festivals.
RTT: Earlier this year your dropped your new single “Haiku” what can you tell us about the release ?
HPA: I started with the guitars, then built some background behind the guitars to create the atmosphere, from there I incorporated the drum lines and then added the pianos and vocal hook at the end last to pull the track together.
I’m Really Proud of that record, from the writing process, and taking influence from Ben E. King. Flying Lotus, and Tycho. I loved Working with Mr. Suicide Sheep on the co-release, Then when I was finding support from you guys @ RTT, Too Future, and my guys over and Trap Nation it really helped bring the release together and get it out on the web.
I didnt expect the release to take off like it did, but I am stoked and happy to see so much positive response from my fans and friends with this track.
RTT: so tell us about you move out to Utah ?
HPA: yeah I am living in SLC now. I love it.
RTT: How has the transition been so far ?
HPA: Its been great, I have alot of friends out here now from playing shows with the Smoke Siignles crew. I have been enjoying hiking around the mountains, and looking forward to start snowboarding on the regular this winter with my friends at “Natural Glass”
Also I have had a proper welcoming from the V2 crew out here, they got me on their big annual event “Das Energi” where I will be playing alongside Dillion Francis, Marshmello Wolfgang Gartner, and many more!
SLC has done a great job with welcoming me in, its great !
In closing, I want to say thank you to everyone, Friends, Fans,
and my on growing team.
I couldn’t ask for a better way to spend my summer. thank you for helping
me to make all of this possible.
