[Interview] Headphone Activist Talks About His Recent Tour + New Single

We caught up with Headphone Activist this week to discuss his recent West Coast tour, signing with Waveform, and his new track Silent Flo.

RTT – Sup?
HPA – Sup? haha.

RTT – so how was your first tour?
HPA – Dope, really dope. I got to hang out and play a few festivals,link up with new artists, meet some really talented visual artists, and had an all around good time.

RTT – any favorite moments ?
HPA – A bunch yeah, one of my favorites, the show in Oakland CA, was insane. Full house, on a Wednesday! I Introduced a bunch of new unreleased tracks at that show. + I got to meet a bunch of fans.

RTT – That’s Hype!
HPA – Yeah, crowd wise for sure Oakland and Bend OR were packed and full of fans.

RTT – So congrats on signing with Waveform Agency ! that’s big !
HPA – Thanks, yeah its a big move forward !

RTT – How did that all happen ?
HPA – So, I have been getting a lot of management offers since the new year hit. It’s been cool, but most of the offers have been more based on my #s and the money people can make from me and less on the music I am making and the direction I want to go with my music.
So when I linked up with the guys @ waveform it was one of the first offers that made sense. They approached me straight up, made it clear they are stoked on what I am doing, the artistic direction the project is going, and wanted to be apart of the project. I also have been seeing the quality work they’ve been doing for my friend Rob “Buku” for years now.

RTT – So its just a good fit ?
HPA – Exactly.

RTT – Perfect, So your generating alot of buzz around your new track “Silent Flo”
HPA – 100%, My fans do such a good job of sharing my music around. The support and positive vibes from everyone is really awesome, super stoked.

RTT- what can you tell us about the track ?
HPA –
Lately I have been searching and listening to alot of Jazz/soul influenced music.
So for this record, I found some old french love songs from the 70s.
I pitched down a few keys for atmospheric effects,
designed some light piano sounds in Alchemy “VST” to build around the original chopped sample,
Designed a brass trumpet sound and through a pass on it create the distancing FX. The vocals were from an acapella I found online and sampled out to create the hook.
