Nico Segal is Donnie Trumpet, leader of the four piece band that is The Social Experiment (aka SoX), which features Chance The Rapper and gained it’s recognition after helping produce the now prolific “Acid Rap” mixtape which launched Chance and the rest of the Save Money collective into hip-hop’s spotlight. They have been hard at work in the studio cultivating the soundscapes that make up this Album, which is available for free download via i-Tunes .
Headed by Donnie Trumpet’s bold and brassy sound, the album itself has a soulful jazzy essence and and a cool lyrical presence, dare say it’s some poetic justice. There are no listed features on any of the tracks, as to keep the listener guessing and interested throughout every song and to not just skip through. Chance’s voice is heard throughout as well as some other familiar ones. It’s pretty clear that Donnie Trumpet did not want to just come out and make another hip-hop album, and The Social Experiment is not out to make beats.
