Rapper 21 Savage was arrested by U.S. Immigration an Customs Enforcement (ICE) early this morning and is facing deportation. According to an official statement by ICE the rapper who’s name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph is a United Kingdom national who’s “unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.”
ICE’s statement claims that 21 Savage legally entered the U.S. in July 2005, and that his visa expired one year later. In 2014, the rapper was convicted on felony drug charges in Fulton County, Georgia. According to ICE, Abraham-Joseph has been placed in “removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts.”
21 Savage’s lawyer said, “We are working diligently to got Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding. Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country — especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged mothers and youths in financial literacy.”
