Run The Trap is known for covering electronic music as well as rap music, but very rarely are we given the opportunity to cover both at the same time. That wasn’t the case with Bok Nero’s new crossover mixtape Hood EDM.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Bok Nero bridges the gap between hip-hop and EDM on a mixtape that includes acclaimed artists such as Steve Aoki, Yellow Claw, iLoveMakonnen, Zomboy, UZ, Riot Ten and Ricky Remedy to create a genre-bending soundclash.
In addition to serving as a compilation of the young MC’s greatest hits to date, the mixtape features a handful of new and previously unreleased tracks from Nero, including “All Black” and the Shizz Lo collaboration “Fvcken Greatest.”
“Nobody told me to rap on electronic dance music and create a hybrid,” states Bok Nero. “Just like nobody told rappers to spit over disco breakbeats and create hip-hop. It ain’t no rules, I make my own rules! I’m spitting fire, plus I really understand the EDM culture like no other rapper. Hood EDM! This is me making festival music for the hood, the traps, and the favelas all over the world!”
It seems like the time for Bok’s blow up is just around the corner, and the electronic dance music scene has realized this. With such a talented group of artists collaborating with the equally as talented M.C. it’s no wonder this mixtape has been such a success.
