An unlikely collab just came out between Canadian bass music heavyweight Ekali and mysterious house lord ZHU and it’s pleasantly surprising how well it came together.
Ideally, a collaboration between artists comes out as equally the work of one artist as the next, and I can say confidently this sounds as much a ZHU track as an Ekali track. The vocal line, movement, and ambiance is consistent with ZHU’s repertoire, while the horns and the changing snare samples can most certainly be attributed to Ekali’s work on the track. There are definitely traces of early What So Not influence in the track’s breakdown sections; it’s particularly reminiscent of their track Touched released a little over four years ago.
The result is a bouncy, wistfully heavy-hitting sonic journey. Although anything outside the realm of four-on-the-floor is unusual for ZHU, this came out nicely. Check out the track below:
