20 year old wonder child Enschway has been cranking out hits for the better part of the year. His and LUUDE‘s remix of “Reims” has been supported by Alison Wonderland, Diplo, A-trak, and RL Grime himself. His original track “I’ll Wait” with sumthin sumthin is in my top 3 tracks of 2017. His new track “Over U” shows off his superb production skills and will get stuck in your head, guaranteed.

RTT: Hey man, so glad to have you here with us. You’ve had a massive year so far. What’s been you biggest “OMG” moment thus far?
Enschway: Glad to be here, love you guys <3
The biggest OMG moment was easily playing to a packed out tent at Splendour in the Grass earlier this year… the experience was pretty indescribable & I was so overwhelmed that I started crying afterwards.
Tell us about the new track. Aside from your remix of “Dang” by Mac Miller and Anderson .Paak, I don’t think I’ve heard a production of yours at this tempo. What inspired the switch?
Yeah, It’s weird I usually just go straight for 150 or 140 because it’s what I’m comfortable with, the “Dang” remix was at the tempo because the vocals couldn’t be stretched too much without crazy distortion so I had to stay there.
I think I was listening to some slower Chainsmokers & mura masa tunes & decided to open up Ableton and give a slower tempo a go. Just thought it would be fun to make something more bouncy than my usual stuff.
Your recurring EP series Friendschway has gotten a lot of love and has resulted in some insane tracks. Tell to us about how you like to collaborate with other artists.
I usually just like to collaborate with friends that make music I really love. With the whole collaborating I just think it’s fun and interesting to combine two different skill sets. Like someone I’m collaborating with may be particularly skilled in one area where I’m lacking, and can sometimes create some pretty interesting stuff. I usually start online and send projects back & forth then like to finish it up in person just to add that extra bit of spice to the songs, which I’ve been doing a lot lately cough, cough, Friendschway 3.
If you could write a track with any artist dead or alive, who and why?
Kanye West, because he is the goat.
You’ve been making future bass style tracks for some time now. How do you continue to bring fresh ideas to the style? Where do you see your sound going next?
I do love future bass but it is getting super saturated so it’s harder than ever to bring fresh ideas… over the last few months i’ve just been re-learning my skill set and trying to diversify my sound design. I’ll still be sticking to the same kind of vibe but just pushing different boundaries and crossing over lots of different genres. I made a 2013 style electro track but with some influence from my future bass roots… I’m excited to see how people react to that one :/
Where does your inspiration come from? Tell us about your background as a musician – did you play any other music before you started producing?
My inspiration comes from that feeling you get when you hear a song and it just brings through all these emotions; sadness & nostalgia to be specific. Makes me want to go and try and make it myself.
I started off DJing at local house parties and just fell in love with electronic music. Looked up how to make a Hardwell style track and it went from there… I used to play the drums when I was younger & I’m learning more and more piano/music theory every day… that is a very deep rabbit hole which is pretty much endless. Good fun though.
Tell us about how you like to work in your DAW. Do you have a routine? Do you work horizontally or vertically?
I use Ableton in arrangement mode and it’s just a mess. Nothing grouped, nothing labelled, just a dogs breakfast. It usually gets to a point where I can’t actually finish a song because it takes too long to find elements of a track so I need to group and organize it all. Just a bad habit I picked up overtime because of my ADHD… please don’t follow in those footsteps haha.
Outside of the studio, who do you like to listen to?
Pretty much anyone with “Lil” in their name… also a lot of pop music.
I’ve had Lil Peeps album “Come over when your sober pt. 1” & XXXTentation’s – 17 album on repeat… love those two albums so much.
I always ask artists this question: If you could curate a 3-day festival lineup, with unlimited funds, who would your three headliners be?
– Kanye West
– Lil Peep
– Marshmello b2b $uicide Boy$
For our readers who haven’t been able to see you perform live, how would you describe your DJ sets?
Schwifty
What do you look for in a song to play out? Does really arrangement or sound design stand out to you? How do you go about looking for music for your sets?
The arrangement isn’t usually an issue because if I didn’t like a section I could cut it out or make an edit etc….
But sound design is a massive thing for me. It has to be a good balance between sound design and the rhythm & groove of the drop
I usually have one or two days a month where I literally sit on Soundcloud for the whole day and just find 100’s of new songs. I’d go into popular artists likes and see what they have been listening too. My favorite tool is reddit though, r/trap has sooooo many good songs posted and edit/mashup packs – Love that page.
What can we expect from you in the coming months?
Singles, friendschways, remixes, beer drinking, merch & maybe some sneaky festivals.
