Diplo is without a doubt one of the most desired producers to work with in the music world, that is unless you are Rihanna. In a recent interview with GQ, Diplo revealed his desire to work with Rihanna stating:
“I just want [Rihanna] on a Major Lazer song… She’s like the one artist that we can’t ever get.”
From that point on he went on to detail both his encounters with the famous pop singer:
I played her “Lean On.” She was like, “I don’t do house music.” I face-palmed so hard on that one. Another time I had a session with her, and Future was also invited. The Weeknd was there. Metro Boomin was there before anybody knew who he was. I was so contact high. Future played her, like, 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I’m leaving unless you let me play her a song. So I played her a song. And she was like, “This sounds like a reggae song at an airport.” [laughs] I was like, I’m gonna go kill myself.
Harsh words from Rihanna, but not unexpected from one of the most savage and talented ladies in the game. In response to Diplo’s words in the article, Rihanna had few words to say but gave a very lighthearted response:
Whatever the result of this is, the fans in us can only hope that one day we get a collaboration between Rihanna and Diplo. Or at the very least, maybe we can get an episode of “What Diplo Would Do” about this.
