The Original
If we can agree that Mura Masa’s “Your Bones (Intermission)” is haunting, sparse and melancholic, it’s also lazy-river slow. These qualities are what make the song’s emotional dissonance and tension sound like a late-afternoon nap in the sun.
Cōfresi’s Flip
It seems like flips and remixes lend themselves to a kind of neural speculation inviting listeners to trace the thread the artist remixing the track recognized was ripe to extrapolate. While Cofresi takes appropriate artistic liberties in clipping on the jumper cables and supercharging the track with a some varied sonic atmospheres, the original canvas maintains some visibility.
In addition, he juxtaposes the original track’s ample negative space occupied by human voices with a robust digital waterfall. Cofresi’s performative live production style lends itself to the altitude-changing moods in each track, of which this flip is no exception.
Add the extraterrestrial visual representation by surrealist graphic talent John Neave and this thoroughly reframed flip is complete.
