If Mark Johns hasn’t been on your radar, you’ve been missing out. The LA based singer/songwriter landed on our “25 Artists to Watch in 2016” list last year and as the first solo singer to be signed to Skrillex’s OWSLA label, her vocal ability has never failed to impress. From hip hop to R&B mixed with sultry hints of soul and elements of dance, Mark Johns has proven herself to be a versatile singer that can take any track and make it her own. From her cover of Jay Z and Kayne West’s “In Paris” to her infamous track “5 South,” Mark Johns has given us a little bit of everything and her upcoming Molino EP out on Oct. 28, is no different.
Taking a grittier and more organic approach to the six track EP, her latest tracks “Molino” and “Before You” are a direct reflection of her raw, unfiltered emotion and it works because it is completely relatable. “I think I wrote “Molino” out of frustration more than anything.” Mark Johns shared with Rolling Stone. “I was like, “Well, this is all taking so long, and I don’t know what I’m doing, and I’m so scared. How do I feel about all of this? I’m a songwriter, I should be able to write about it.” Check out the rest of her interview with Rolling Stone here and stream her latest releases “Molino” and “Before You” below.
