Well, it was only inevitable. After months of rumors, Soundcloud has finally launched “Soundcloud Go,” a $9.99 a month ($12.99 for iOS devices) service promising advertisement-free and offline streaming. On top of this, the platform offers users access to the catalogues of the three major labels as well as 20,000 independent labels. CEO Alexander Ljung stated in a press release:
“SoundCloud Go represents our vision of the future of music streaming: a platform for creators to collaborate on; for fans to discover the latest tracks, enjoy legendary music and connect with their favorite artists; and for our unique creative community to have the opportunity to be paid for their work.”

And still, none of the articles I have read tell us how this will influence us, as small-time and independent artists. What will happen to our music? Will we get paid for the music that we produce, since Soundcloud charges people to listen to it in the first place? All together, I've got a faint clue that Soundcloud will not be here for much longer.

if you aren't releasing music on a label or you are and your label isn't on the list of labels soundcloud is working with, you're not going to be effected in any way. This is to listen to music offline, this is nothing new this is a feature spotify has had for quite sometime now and yes you have to pay for it on spotify. People have been saying soundcloud is going to die for a year, but lets get real there is nothing to take its place and a platform with that many users isn't just gona get knocked out.

Mike Heneghan Well that sheds some light on the situation. I honestly thought (after reading a bunch of articles) that all of SC would become a paid service, which -in my opinion- would probably not keep them alive, especially after the recent news of a possible bankrupcy since Spotify and more companies are already offering practically the same services for less. But all is fine then! Thanks 🙂
