imprintafter – All We Ever Did EP

The young LA-based imprintafter has created a small following for himself with his crisp style of beat-making geared for the dance-floor and after contributing on the latest Shoeboxx Recordings compilations, he’s back with a four-track EP of his own entitled All We Ever Did available as a free DL through the Shoeboxx bandcamp.

The EP is split into two sort of “sides” with the A-side consisting of a west-coast rendition of jersey club music and the B-side making a total reversal in energy with chill, crisp, downtempo music.

The Jersey club tracks are testament to the health of the genre and imprintafter does a wonderful job nailing all the rhythms (and bed squeaks) that make the hallmarks of jersey club music. Still, the tracks definitely have a different flavor than their east-coast counterparts, undoubtedly influenced by imprintafter’s unique production style– it’s really a west coast interpretation of the music which is incredible… this is how musical evolution works.  The chill tracks are more akin to some of imprint’s earlier work but display an even greater complexity and maturity as producer and provide a very nice contrast to the hype energy of the first two tracks on the EP.
