Freaky Deaky
Friday- Big Top Stage – 4:00
I’ve been high on Grandtheft ever since I saw him bust open one of the side stages at Spring Awakening Music Festival this past Summer. After clocking in collaborations with Diplo for remixes of “Summer” and “Sweet Nothing” it became clear that this kid definitely knows what he is doing. One booming collaboration with Keys N Krates later, he can now be spotted on the Mad Decent roster, regularly pumping out tunes.
Friday- Big Top Stage – 8:15
It’s hard to describe a Flying Lotus set. I’ve seen him on four seperate occasions…and just to give you an idea of how his sets can be here’s a few songs I remember hearing amidst the sets : Zodiac Shit , Hard In Da Paint (Crizzly Remix) , and the Noisia Remix of Labryinth. I’ve never had a bad time at a Flylo set, and I expect Freaky Deaky to be no different. (Don’t expect to see his personal stage production at Freaky Deaky pictured below.)
Saturday – The Crypt – 6:30
It’s a very possible notion to me that Mr. Carmack doesn’t sleep – he simply is ALWAYS MAKING MUSIC. If you follow him on social media or Soundcloud it’s likely you’ll see him pop up at an odd hour and finally release an entire EP like he did last night. At any given time he is sitting on piles of unreleased heaters and you might be lucky enough to hear some of them at Freaky Deaky 2015.
Saturday – The Shrine – 8:10
It’s going to be October 31st…AKA Halloween… you’re going to want to get weird, right? Let Borgore take you on his wild ride. The polarizing figure who made his name with his abrasive dubstep sound is a very busy man amidst his worldwide touring and more importantly his Borgore-esque shenanigans. His sets now are a good mix of genres. You will still get some of the old Borgore dubstep that you grew to love, along with sprinklings of trap, electro, big room and everything in between. If you can’t make his set, hop on over to The MID for a late-night aftershow.
Saturday – The Crypt – 9:30
It’s only fitting that Gesaffelstein’s own take on gritty dark electro with a tinge of french even darker techno will be closing out Freaky Deaky Music Festival on Halloween. Dudes be careful – if you are with your girlfriend she WILL have a crush on Gesaffelstein by the end of the set. Hell you might too. It’s a DJ set, so who knows what kind of weird, dark tunes he will be playing out just make sure to wear all the black you can find and everything will be okay.
Sunday – The Shrine – 6:10
It’s very hard for me to ever miss out on an A-Trak set. Probably the most technically skilled DJ on the lineup, he always plays eclectic sets that in general just always ‘fun.’ His expert level DJ-ing, scratching and beat juggling combined with the massive list of tunes he has amassed by being founder of Fool’s Gold Records promises a great time.
Sunday – The Shrine – 9:30
Pretty Lights hasn’t been in Chicago for more than a year, his last Chicago perofrmance being at Spring Awakening Music Festival 2014. Still unsure if Pretty Lights will be traveling with any of his band, or if it will be a solo DJ set. Either way, expect the lines between beats and bangers to blurred into one beautiful set full of organic sounds and chopped up samples.
