In a not so surprising move, Sony has forced Dillon Francis to remove his remix of Madeon’s Imperium from Soundcloud. This is just the latest thing to happen in Sony’s ongoing feud with Soundcloud. Earlier in the year, Sony began forcing their bigger artists, including Madeon, to remove their music from the online streaming platform because they believe Soundcloud owes them royalties for streaming content that is copyrighted by Sony.
In a tweet, Madeon asked Dillon Francis if it was Sony that forced him to take the song down. Dillon Francis replied saying “They made me take it down or they said they would strike my account…. ”

It has nothing to do with @madeon …Sony owns the music and wants to make money off it therefore the takedown https://t.co/iqz5900O4e

The only way this is going to stop is if Sony and Soundcloud are able to reach a deal paying Sony the money that Sony believes they are owed. Otherwise Soundcloud’s copyright policies will become stricter and stricter culling innovation and making it harder for artists who use the platform to grow. You can still listen to the remix below via YouTube, a site that does pay royalties to labels.
