PREMIERE: Mr. Carmack - EGO (Woolymammoth Remix)

The last Woolymammoth track I brought you was a killer remix of a very popular Future song. It isn’t easy remixing legends, even if they are yet to be named that. Popular, soon-to-be classics, in everyone’s top ten track lists, are very difficult to flip uniquely, and in a way that the remix simultaneously is connected to the original but develops an entirely new identity.

On the artist’s most recent remix of “EGO,” originally mixed by the legendary producer Mr. Carmack, he leaves himself with even bigger shoes to fill than Future’s, in my opinion. Remixing a renowned producer can go one of two ways. Either the remixing artist does successful justice to a masterful original, or they fail at the endeavor altogether. Luckily for Woolymammoth and this remix with all the chill, and we wouldn’t be here otherwise, the former is true.

The new track mimics a classic Carmack track in a showing of homage; a tip of the hat to the producer whose music and ethics are the meaning of life. Woolymammoth chops, slows, and distorts the vocals and other pieces of the original, and lays them on top of smooth and heavy bass lines with a slow and steady beat. Dope flames, fire, and insert whatever the kids are saying this week to describe killer, quality tunes. This track is all of those things.

Woolymammoth proves himself able to make the type of remix that everyone will f*ck with. I certainly do.
