Today Native Instruments released the first music available in their new STEMS format which breaks a song up into four pieces a.k.a. “stems.” This format has been a long time coming, effectively bridging the gap between producer and DJ by allowing for full control (and processing) of individual elements within a track. Gone are the days of being limited to the EQ! This new format opens up an entire new world of possibility for DJing as an artform and as a way to reinterpret tracks in a live setting. In short, the game just changed.
There are already a bunch of STEMS available through beatport as well as through others like Bleep, Juno, Traxsource, whatpeopleplay, and Wasabeat and NI just released a new update to Traktor which will allow users full control of the new format! Even the biggest Traktor haters have to geek out a little bit about this… The free STEMS converter is still unavailable to the public but it can’t be far off!
In the meantime, check out the video below, download the free STEMS and then you tell us if you think this is the future of DJing.
