Love 3X - ZZ Ward (AObeats Remix)

ZZ Ward is releasing an LP entitled This Means War on September 18, an album definitive of her genre-bending sound with vocals that will give you loud and clear the message of what the soulful singer is all about. Track after track of all things ZZ.

‘LOVE 3X’ is one of these tracks, and you know what they say about love and war, but what about love, love, love, and war? Not so much an equation for the cliche, but I’d be willing to bet that loves wins this war. It is all love on this one, the ‘LOVE 3X’ remix that AObeats was commissioned by ZZ Ward to make. Love is what he makes, maybe even more times than three. Within the first four seconds I am in it, as I have been for years now. It was love at first sight, and has been ever since I first covered AObeats and his early work.

There is a ‘LOVE 3X’ Remix package, of which the tracks are as colorful as their album artwork. Just as the tracks on her album help define her sound, remixes are an extension of that sound, as well as collaborations with a variety of artists so that the packages come to represent this very eclectic, undefinable sound. That is sort of the style of Andrew Okamura aka AObeats anyway. Over the years, it has certainly evolved into something a big more futuristic than even his early stuff, but talk about a signature sound. AObeats’ music is nothing if not consisting of pitched up, chopped vocals, crisp snares, budding synth glissandos, and everything else that makes this sound so crisp, futuristic, and romantic. The original track’s amazing sound, and ZZ’s dope vocals were a perfect fit for the stylings of AObeats.

This Moving Castle front man and one of the collectives OG members, makes love, love, love, on every track he touches. So how appropriate is it that he would remix this one? There’s nothing left to say but that it is, as I’ve said, all love. Not once, but three times on repeat.
