Avicii‘s famed manager Ash Pournouri took to instagram yesterday to announce that his Connected Artists agency will now provide booking for Orange Is The New Black star Ruby Rose who’s apparently been involved as a low-key DJ for at least four years (according to her soundcloud). The move comes as bit of a shake-up for the industry because of the broad discrimination females have faced within the EDM industry as well as Ruby’s outspoken views on gender roles.
With Ruby’s massive public appeal, there’s no doubt that this partnership will only help to bring about positive change for females and those who don’t identify with traditional gender roles in the EDM community. The very discourse on such matters is a sign of changing times– Ruby taking her DJ career to the next level only serves to accelerate that change. Good on you Ruby and Ash, we expect big things!
Also I’d like to see a promoter tell Ruby to her face that “Female DJs don’t draw” (she prefers female pronouns, we love you LGBTQ fam)
