Nest HQ is, for obvious reasons, one of my favorite sources for new music and music news. They recently sat down with one of the greatest duos known to our generation for an epic interview to accompany the release of a brand new mix and I have decided to break it all down for you in this here article. To summarize though, Zeds Dead will be heading on the road through their home nation of Canada to embark on a tour of a different color and that warranted a new mix and answers to some questions. We have all heard of collaborative bus tours, but the Full Flex Express is a train that will house not only Hooks and DC, but also some of their finest friends and the train will have a studio car where they will be making mellifluous sound with their friends while traveling to different cities and towns, delivering their explosive show to locales all over the great nation of Canada. Hopefully they will roll through the 6, although not sure these the guys have much in the way of woes. They are two pretty bright creatures.
So this announcement of their first ever train tour is even more cause for celebration. The Full Flex Express Train Tour is one of, if not the biggest, announcements to come from this interview. Nest HQ also talked with DC and Hooks, as the members are best known, about the Somewhere Else EP remix package released earlier this year, how they finalize their tracks and sometimes end up remixing their own mixes, Steve Brule, traveling and making music, their ever-evovling sound, and this upcoming train tour. The interview covers a lot of ground and its accompanying mix tape is nothing to pass over either.
Zeds Dead’s very original sound is all encompassing, rooted in heavy bass music, and branching out from there. You can feel it in your soul, with every knob that is twisted and each loop and whirl that is placed inside the sounds already in place. This 50 minutes mix brings a surprise with every drop and it features too many people to name… but I was sold at first glance seeing Mura Masa, Jay Z, and and Drake. For those of you who dig a more housy vibe, there is some Oliver Heldens and Martin Garrix on here too. ZD is all about variety.
This duo is always finding ways to be innovative and we highly commend them for that. Zeds Dead does amazing work in the studio with their originals and remixes but you haven’t lived until you have seen these guys live. In fact, I don’t think you can put a value on their total worth without seeing them live. Their energy is intoxicating– the visuals on the level after next and their performances go beyond any normal version of praise or accolade; they take sounds and flavors out of their element and displace them into something beautiful and filthy, fresh and dirty. They’ll take house or club styles and rearrange its face so that it represents something completely different, that’s Zeds Dead.
This mix clocks in at just over 50 minutes. It jars your being in the best way possible from beginning to end. ZD never disappoints.
