The past few weeks for Eminem have consisted of teasing his new track “Phenomenal,” for the upcoming boxing Southpaw movie, by dropping snippets and scoring a recent Beats by Dre commercial. The wait is over as the hard-hitting track dropped in full last midnight.
“Phenomenal” is fittingly a boxing-inspried track. The track was produced by DJ Khalil and features Eminem aggressively spitting lyrics such as, “”I write with the left/Same hand I hold the mic with as I fight to the death.”
According to the Detroit Free Press, the song was co-written by the rapper’s longtime collaborator Luis Resto and his brother Mario Resto.
Back in 2010, Eminem was actually slated to star in the movie, but later back out to concentrate on the recording and release of his MMLP2. Still wanting to stay involved with the film, Eminem opted to executive produce the film’s soundtrack, which is set to be released via his own Shady Records.
“We have been involved in developing Southpaw since its inception, and Eminem has dedicated himself to ensuring that this film captured his passion for the project through his music,” Shady Records president Paul Rosenberg told Billboard. “We’ve assembled a great soundtrack to accompany what’s sure to be one of the finest boxing films ever.”
