Chance the Rapper excitedly boasted about his NEW MOVIE, the video for his track, “Sunday Candy,” so sweet and feel good that it will give you a toothache. The video is the icing on this proverbial piece of candy. Lovers of the sing rap styles of Chance will be bopping along to the song and its accompanying video, just as excited as the rapper himself. “Sunday Candy,” hit the interwebs yesterday, and people have been buzzing about it.
It is not quite like the short film Mr. Happy Chance recently released, no. This one is easy like Sunday morning, but its “Sunday Candy,” and its main ingredient is sugar. Mixed with well choreographed dance moves, dope rap lyrics, and smooth vocals all around, Donnie Trumpet, the Social Experiment and Chance the Rapper nailed this in more ways than one.
This track is off the album Surf, Chance’s new album with Trumpet and the Social Experiment, which has not yet been released. Chance rarely does anything alone anymore, and Surf is far from a solo project. Trumpet released “Sunday Candy” a few months ago on his Soundcloud. The live band aspect of Chance’s work really broadens his sound, and makes the doo wop retro setting an appropriate one for what seems like a throwback track. Ironically, the whole thing is very modern and next level, done skillfully and with so much taste. There is a rumor that the dances were modeled after a scene from the teenie bopper flick from some time ago, High School Musical.
Sweet vocals and powerful dance sequences around a sweet shop all done in one continuous shot. Sheer brilliance. Expect nothing less thank perfection from the Acid Rapper, Chance.
