While I was searching for tracks to put in our Too Future. Thursday posts, I stumbled upon a track that made my eyebrows raise. That track was “If Only” by 17 year old New Zealand singer Maya Payne and after you hear it you will know why. Her beautiful vocals collide with a vibey future bass beat to form a song you’ll have on repeat for weeks. When her team asked me if I would premiere the music video for this single, I couldn’t say no.
Her inspiration for the video came from a dream she had, and she was going to stop at nothing to make this dream come true. She traveled halfway around the world to the beautiful island of Santorini in Greece with director Shae Sterling to make this stunning music video. During the video, the vibrant colors of architecture and the fauna erupt into a kaleidoscope that when partnered with the music will have you saying “Wow.”
Big things are heading the way of this young star with her debut EP due out soon and a full album expected before the end of the year. Her tracks and the subsequent remixes have already gotten plenty of play on mainstream New Zealand radio as well as BBC Radio 1 so expect to be hearing more from her very soon. Spotify also listed the track high up on their best new release Tuesday playlist where it is garnering even more attention. “If Only” is out now so throw her some money to support a fantastic independent artist and good music.
