Dillon Francis might be on the most important and most significant hot-streak of his bright career right now. The Mad Decent mayhem maker is on the cusp of releasing his debut full-length record, currently headlining a countrywide tour to celebrate the album’s release, and still manages to put out a slew of in-demand tracks that he has had up his sleeve for his anxiously posted fans. No undertaking seems to be too ambitious for the Columbia Records recruit as Francis has taken on Deadmau5‘s magnum opus, “Some Chords,” for his latest remix project. The result is brilliant.
Joel Zimmerman, the man behind the wide-eyed, ear-clad helmet is known best for his fearlessly unfiltered opinions, unparalleled twitter mastery, and of course his unmatched fusion of progressive-house and tech-inspired sounds. “Some Chords” however, is one of the Mau5’s most impressive and most popular releases to date, and ultimately pinned Deadmau5 as a first-ballot hall-of-famer as soon as it hit the wire. Now, Dillon Francis is showing off his rendition of the classic house cut, and his stylistic modifications up the ante on Mau5’s shining achievement quite well.
Dillon’s remix reflects an updated, energetic rendition of it’s original counterpart. Wiring in his signature glitch-house synth arrangments to the original’s thumping club-primed appeal, Dillon warps “Some Chords” into a thundering main stage weapon. Working in spastic additions to the track’s composition, the remix boldly breathes new life into the original material. Charging the tune up with rolling drum kicks in the build, the break comes through as fresh new spin on Deadmau5’s smash hit, while paying respectful homage to one of the tunes that started dance music’s rapid global expansion in recent years.
