Tiësto’s Mix for Diplo & Friends – Sept 21
UPDATE: Yesterday Tiesto finally aired is 2 hour mix on Diplo & Friends, and to our surprise there is almost no trap. You can scope the entire Track List by hitting the link featured above, as well as download the entire mix. Enjoy.
The Diplo and Friends installment for BBC radio 1Xtra has by far been our favorite new series that BBC has brought to the table this year. From a variety of mixes from the likes of Diplo, Gent & Jawns, RL Grime, Grandtheft, Djemba Djemba x Mr. Carmack and more; Diplo and Friends has been one of the key outlets to showcase the up and coming artists (and music) on the rise in the ever growing trap music / downtempo / Club music scene. Diplo even brought the likes of Avicii in for a guest mix, and now is doing the same thing with the dance music superstar Tiësto.
During a quick interview with inthemix, speaking on how genres are limiting to producers, Tiësto confirmed that he does indeed have his own mix lined up for the Diplo and Friends show. When speaking on his Diplo and Friends installment, Tiësto said: “I wanted to make selections I wouldn’t necessarily play in my DJ sets – more my general taste in music.” I know he’s been playing out a lot of music from the likes of Carnage (and they also have a collab track coming out?), so does this mean we might see a trappier side of Tiesto in this mix?
EDIT: It’s confirmed that Tiesto will be hosting Diplo & Friends Saturday, September 18th. Based on the recent release on his label Musical Freedom’s Trap Remix EP, we should be hearing some trap music tunes mixed in with other music the established producer is liking at the moment.
Diplo originally told inthemix about the upcoming mix back in April when he said “I got Tiesto to do a mix too, and it’s gonna be the same thing, I think it’s going be something people are going to be surprised about.”
Although nothing has been officially released, one of our sources at BBC said that the the mix should air on June 29th, however the mix has already been pushed back multiple times due to Tiësto being a perfectionist.
Do you think Tiësto is going to run the trap with this new Diplo and Friends mix? And are you excited about it? He’s a master of his craft, so I personally think that whatever he puts together is going to be dope. All artists can cross genres as much as they want in my opinion.. as long as it’s well done, high quality work.
