Celebrating something on the more non-historical side in the textbook sense were Fool’s Gold Records‘ Founders A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, one hell of a lineup, and the thousands of people who came to Williamsburg Park to create a different type of history on September 1st: Fool’s Gold Day Off NY.
The “Day Off”–which will also be hitting Toronto, LA, Atlanta and Miami–had a jaw dropping lineup including Cakes Da Killa, Grandmarshall, The Bronx’s own B.I.C. and French Montana, Sashu’U, Brenmar, Hoodboi b2b Falcons, Araabmuzik, Danny Brown and so much more. With such an appetizing fusion of hip-hop and electronic music, A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs easily solidified their relevance both individually, as a label, and as business men. They even gained a massive amount of respect from some mind blowing “guests” that came out to tear Brooklyn apart.
A-Trak made sure to bring out a bigger guest each time his hands touched the decks, further removing himself from the spotlight and making it all about the other acts. First, it was Harlem’s own Cam’ron. Then, it was The Bronx’s long missed and never forgotten Remy Ma. After a moment of silence, the increasing chant of “A$AP” filled the venue bringing out A$AP Nast. Fool’s Gold had Williamsburg Park going up on a Monday, so it was only right to bring out the weekday partier I LOVE MAKKONEN for a quick performance that left everyone singing along. Another guest not on the bill, but definitely expected considering the borough, was the hot boy that’s been sweeping the nation with his shmoney dance: Bobby Shmurda. The list of guests can literally go on, but it’s one of those “you had to be there to understand” moments.
Unfortunately, you can’t be there anymore, but you can definitely try and hit the other states to find your pot of gold.
