There were mixed reactions on the Plurnternet when the announcement of kandi being banned from Mad Decent Block Party was originally released. Bro’s rejoiced as the ban was instated, while the kandi community was in an uproar, apparently attacking Diplo via twitter (so not PLUR guys).. Diplo issued a statement on the matter to put the issue to rest. He doesn’t specifically state why the ban was instated, but keeps his message focused on keeping MDBP about the music and nothing else. See the statement below:
Kandi Read: http://t.co/yYTvq9Xf9N
— blondre 3000 (@diplo) August 13, 2014
“So, I never wear Kandi and I understand it’s not drug related culture inherently,” Diplo writes. “We just had serious issues with kids hiding it and there was a definite relationship between safety and security and made it so we had to ban certain items. We have teamed up w Dance Safe, cooperated w police and medics to really handle the last three parties and we have set up free water stations at all the MDBP[s].
“All I care about is people coming to enjoy music and have a safe and good time. Everything else is secondary. I would trade 100 thousand angry ravers to have 100% safe and happy street parties when we started it on Philly 6 years ago.
“So it’s all good if you’re into whatever you’re into we just implement these rules for you. Not against you. This is just a simple set of rules we are using to make things safer… I’m sorry of they affect you or keep you from coming.
“All over the world kids and women [are] getting killed right now over beliefs, this is silly to get angry over. If it bothers you just don’t attend I’m down for anything positive but this doesn’t affect our parties too much. I’m not the promoter, I actually had nothing to do with the rules being implemented, but I do agree with my team. And cause of who I am, I’m the de facto speaker. I have thick skin so u guys that consider yourself PLUR can attack me all you want it doesn’t bother me. I’m just here for the music.”
What do you think about the Kandi ban at Mad Decent Block Parties and Diplo’s stance on the matter? Let us know in the comments below.

Diplo, you sound like a dick, this isn't about you, this is about us, because without us, there would be no you. Let us dress however we want and do whatever we want, we'll still be there giving you our money but we'll take our drugs and have a great time listening to your great music. I dont see why you need to be pushing away from the rave community, which is a vast majority of your listeners, by preventing them from being who they are. Its jewellery, and a HUGE part of the rave life, and we all stand buy it. But heres the catch, you say that we arnt going to show up because we arnt allowed to do what we usually do in relation to raves because we dont feel the same about the music as you? Youre very very wrong, thats the thing we care most about, thats why theres a rave community, because we all share a common love for dance music, we'll be there with or without kandi, you can keep your silly rules and try and act all high and mighty with your music being the most important thing, but that wont stop us from being us.

PJ Villaflor says
For a guy who openly breaks the law by smoking weed (in most places in the US) he seems be on the other side of the fence when it comes to drugs at the event. I agree with safety for the kids but at the same time, don't be a hypocrite.
Zane Leca says
Id sneak in a bunch of singles and pass them out and throw them at him during his set.

If this proves one thing, it's that he is an absolutely horrific writer.

Fuck kandi, go and tattoo yourselves, fuck, this gets me mad, i mean, i you need kandi to enjoy music… wow, you should be ashamed. PLUR, no kandi needed.
Reefer Sutherland says
how many people o.d. on pot?
Nova Grae Sandoval says
Marijuana is actually a lot different that MDMA. Marijuana isn't the crazy drugs that causes problems at raves, so i don't believe he is being a hypocrite.
DJ Memes says
Glow sticks are banned (not banned per say, but bouncers will take them off of you, because they do make you look like a bit of an idiot in certain circles) in many clubs in Europe and have been for years. It's more about giving you a tap on the shoulder and trying to make you see that you all need to grow up a little bit and snap out of it.
Are you sure you'll still be going out and wearing kandi when you're in your 30s? Come onnnnn!
The whole PLUR attitude is all really positive, commendable and admirable, but this kandi thing is just a little bit… Shit?
Do you wear that stuff every day or just when you 'go raving'? If it's such a huge part of who you are, then why does it only (mostly) get worn when there's some loud speakers and a 4×4 beat going on? See what Diplo is getting at? You can be the person you want to be and experience culture and life, without looking like a plonker.
Also, I just thought I'd remind you that Diplo was an ambassador for world music known all around the world for championing and merging the ghetto styles and sounds of south America, Africa and Asia with contemporary dance culture, long, long, long before the EDM fad kicked in over the in the states. Believe me, he would still be where he is now if the kandi crew suddenly decided to boycott his shows.
Sorry if I caused any offence here, but as your words were a little harsh, I decided to come back at you with some harsh realism.

BREAKING NEWS: DJ TAKES DRUGS.
Kyle Bowe says
banning "kandi" at concerts does nothing to make the events safer and is, in fact, a giant side step of the issue. why not do something to ensure those who use are safer rather than banning an accessory in an attempt to alter public perception?

Rave scene is not my scene because conforming to a crowd isn't satisfying or empowering, but aside from that… The fact that I think my respect up for him is something to think about. Difference in perspective I guess? You shouldn't latch onto someone's fame because they are trying to do the right thing. Do it to help other people. Stop attacking people that are just trying to help the bettering of society.

Teague Miles YoRo Carton says
DJ Memes whos looking like an idiot? the bouncers or us? do you think we care? obviously not. We do what we do because thats who we are, why should we be told how to dress and act when there is no harm in it? I see ravers of all ages, ive seen older men and their fresh 18 year old children at 18+ shows, sporting kandi and going harder than half the crowd! I dont know what i'll be doing in 10 years, but as long as I love the music I will enjoy the culture that loves it just as much as I do.
I dont mean kandi vs everyone else in terms of show goers, im talking those who enjoy the idea of a society that doesn't force stuff down our throats. Yeah there is a much larger group of diplo followers that could care less about the PLUR nation and our beliefs, but this isn't just about kandi, that is just one issue, not even one worth arguing about. As soon as the "whats allowed" list for Mad Decent came out I commented instantly (without realizing that kandi was even on there) stating that theres no point in bringing anything but your ticket to the gates because they will most likely turn you down. It seems like theyre making it less about our enjoyment and more about their status. So what if someone OD's, thats their choice and their choice alone, the rest of us dont care we just want to rave. Diplo doesn't want to be known as the guy who threw the crazy parties where everyone was being sent to the hospital *cough cough* Avicii…. And the companies that assist MDBP dont want to be known as the companies that let all the drugs in so strip/bag/cavity searches will soon be forced upon entry otherwise it looks bad for their business.
Let us wear what we want, let us do what we want, we'll cooperate as best we can just dont force us to do what you want because youre ruining the fun for the rest of us. You cant prevent drugs from getting in (especially when a majority of your tracks sport the use of them -_-), so why try and hide behind these little anti drug tactics that do nothing but make people mad and dont make anything better.
Teague Miles YoRo Carton says
Nova Grae Sandoval theres crazy drugs that cause problems?
how many times have you been asked to shoot some heroine or take a tab of acid at a rave?
since when is molly a crazy drug? where are you hearing this shit?
Teague Miles YoRo Carton says
walk up wearing a full suit of kandi chain mail stating your the PLUR KNIGHT, then bust through the security and hand it all out to everyone lol
Teague Miles YoRo Carton says
when did we say we needed kandi? we just dont see why it isn't allowed even though its a large part of the rave community? raves are where PLUR is at its strongest, and kandi is one way of showing your love for other ravers.
Jorge Fajardo Cepeda says
Wow like… i just don't get it…
PJ Villaflor says

And the companies that assist MDBP dont want to be known as the companies that let all the drugs in so strip/bag/cavity searches will soon be forced upon entry otherwise it looks bad for their business."
Justin McClendis says
I trust Diplos voice and opinion in the EDM realm. He is a vet in the game and all he is trying to accomplish is simply eradicating posers from the scene and making the music about more than just stoopid muli-colored plastic-strung beads, drugs, and other poser-esque behaviors. SIMPLE ish. Why is it so hard to believe that the it has to come to this? The only people mad about the shit are ill-informed pricks who think these festivals and parties are made to suite these kandy raves only, due to feelings of entightelment stemming from this false sense of brotherhood. GET OVER YOURSELVES. ITS ABOUT THE MUSIC. Suck ten cocks if you think otherwise. That is all.
Edgar Cazares says

Nova Grae Sandoval says
Nobody should attack him, just take the damn bracelets off and continue to do drugs and if you're an idiot about it, then you get naturally selected out of here. Drugs are beautiful
Kyle Bowe says
so nobody should attack him but you telling people to die is perfectly okay? right. very plur.
what about the people who buy "bad" drugs? i suppose banning kandi will keep them safe? rather than, i don't know, inviting a company into your festival to ensure kids are taking what they are.
i don't give a damn about the bracelets. i do care about people publicly lying about their intentions. telling people he's removing kandi from his festivals to make them safer is a blatant lie and it's disrespectful to his fans.
drugs ARE beautiful. drugs are also very dangerous and very easy to fake. know what's even more beautiful than drugs? knowledge and intelligence.
Anton Swicht Kaleo says
Jorge Fajardo Cepeda it's pretty simple. Kandi is part of the culture. Just like other things in the scene. There is no danger to it and just like other things banned, it's disrespectful to the people who basically gave life to and supported this scene since the beginning. They say they are "banning it for safety" but we all know that's BS. the companies just want to control people and make things worse.
It's really retarded tbh. You take away the non dangerous things of a scene, that in small ways actually help, yet let all the other BS in, and you eventually will be left with a small audience and less cash. it's a lose lose situation.
Nova Grae Sandoval says
All i know is that good looking, smart men with talent seem to get hated on a lot. Maybe I'm biased because he is an inspiration to me. So PLUR. Bitches. and Diplo if you're reading this, I'd like to let you know that I dream of being part of the music scene soon and hopefully we can meet collaborate and/or meet up for coffee 🙂
Justin Pfeifer says
You're a shitbird.
Ashley Griffith says
So how does bracelets pose a threat to enjoying music at a music festival? I would really like to know. Also, the reality of the matter is that, yeah, most people that go to these events do stuff, henceforth, the free water stations. I think they are trying to disassociate with a culture that is clearly paying their bills and people are angry about it. Cause enough ruckus to where it hurts the checkbooks and maybe theyll revise their policies. Sounds inane to me. I mean, I dont personally wear them, but people should be able to wear them if they want to. Thats like saying I cant wear short shorts or reavealing clothing to said events. No one should dictate how/what one another chooses to wear/how they dress.
Pieter Paßmann says
Thank you Diplo <3 (●ↀωↀ●)✧
Guess Kandi is an American thing – in Europe there are substance controls at every bigger event. They check clothing and bags and keep the right to ban you from the event if you have drugs. Also they will call the police on you if you have a certain amount and it looks like you might sell it at the event.
Teague Miles YoRo Carton says
Justin Pfeifer wow, great counter argument, goes to show the maturity level and life purpose you have.
Save yourself the trouble and go kick rocks.
Victor Lopez says
Teague Miles YoRo Carton I think the only person looking like a idiot here right now is you. You keep using this argument of "that's who I am", maybe if you read DJ Meme's post you would see how stupid you're making yourself look by the second. Let me copy and paste- "If it's such a huge part of who you are, then why does it only (mostly) get worn when there's some loud speakers and a 4×4 beat going on? See what Diplo is getting at? You can be the person you want to be and experience culture and life, without looking like a plonker." I know reading may be difficult for someone like you but give it a try some time. But then again what can anyone expect from someone that makes such a simple piece of accessory so central to their identity…

Nova Grae Sandoval says
The world has come to all of us arguing over bracelets. Like really? There is an outer (& inner) universe to be explored and you're getting upset over some plastic?? If you really admired Diplo like the true artist he is – enough to attend his shows frequently – you would never lash out, you would respect him for his music, and his desire to improve the humanity within the dance music culture, at least at his shows, for your own sake. And he's also trying to separate his crowd/fan base from the fake to the genuine… The ones that rave to fit in with a cultural norm, and the ones who attend his performances to experience the beauty and excitement, in a matter that is safe and fun. Yes, it's possible to do that without taking so much molly and dancing for hours without drinking that you O.D. or long term problems like getting epilepsy when you're older… Blunty, retarded people need to be naturally selected out anyways… Lol. So bottom line is, try to understand his true intentions before you can really understand why you are so outraged. Your opinion matters, but it doesn't change the moral of this situation. They are plastic bracelets. Stop being a fag and and take them off if Diplo is is worth it to you.
Ashley Griffith says
@norahgraysandoval you are a total conformist, unaware of the controls inposed upon the PLUR community. Follow it, and see the excessive police force/ controls upon you that are implemented at festivals. Ignorance is bliss.

Marc Sanchez says
I'm not sure you took the time to actually read his statement. Music is a lifestyle yes, I also like kandi yes, but he didn't implement these rules, he's playing it safe. Make it or break it, majority of the music gets popular because of the fans, yet there's thousands of fans who love the music alone and don't go just for the bracelets and kandi. If you consider yourself "Plur" you'd respect and it is what it is. Don't make a fuss about it. Rules suck, especially when we can't do as we please, but no one ever does do they? It's about respect. If I'm ever invited to your home and I want to be naked because it's my choice and you ban me does that make you a douchebag?
Gregory Bryan Moran says
Look, the reason we are mad, is because taking away our kandi takes away our IDENTITY. I go to the store, buy beads and string, and make some cool looking kandi. I do this in order to give it to people i meet at the show. It promotes community. No, we shouldn't attack diplo, but we have a right to be angry when a dj bans something the community is built on. Also, banning kandi wont solve any drug problems. You dont hide your pills in bracelets. So, it really feels like an attack on the kandi kid, and not an effort to keep us safe.
Candice Michelle Shook says
I just want to point out a few things to provide you with a different way to view this if you are up to being a bit open minded.
1.) He clearly states that this was his teams decision that he stands by, yet you are making it a personal attack at him (or so it comes off), this could be because you felt passionate and probably typed without filtering, so I'm keeping that in mind. Music has nothing to do with ones attire, though I understand the need for one to implement their fashion "freedom" so to speak (Though all kandi kids look the same which I find ironic, they want to stand out by looking the same, boggles my mind). However, there are many night clubs, nice restaurants that make one adhere to rules of attire, so think of it that way. If you want to enjoy his music its not such a big thing to leave the kandi at home. Yes it's a bit excessive and I see your point in preventing it from going further, but you have to realize which battles to choose, and this isn't one I think.
2.) "Its jewellery, and a HUGE part of the rave life, and we all stand buy it." I don't think you have the authority to speak on everyone's behalf. I'm not saying this to be snide, just that this is your personal perspective that you are applying to an entire music scene without taking into account other's who don't feel that way. Additionally labeling everyone "ravers" who enjoy this scene seems like a bit of an over generalization, and miss directed. It comes off that everyone who listens to Dub, Trap or EDM is a raver who needs their kandi to express there individualism when neither of these are true. Who one is , is who they are naked or in a trash bag, one's self should be expressed in their actions and words. I love freedom to wear what you want, but its not that important at the end of the day, its petty.
3.) No one wants a society that forces anything down our throats as you put it, but you must keep in mind we are dealing with a society that has an average IQ of about 98-100 (for North America), so to put it nicely you have a large percentage of people with a low aptitude making awfully stupid decisions that have to be govern by those with authority to protect the whole. (Why do you think we have an electoral college rather than a true democracy? Our founding fathers though the mass majority to be imbecile, even if not entirely true). I'm not trying to be condescending or rude, just think about it. You have a large number of young show- goers (festivals, raves, massives whatever label you want to give it) who haven't yet fully matured to make wise decisions (think of how young the people who have OD'ed are). When you mix in inebriation of any kind or substances that ability to make wise decisions goes down even more, so they have to keep implementing more and more rules to deal with this, and that includes rules that are trite but are in some form or fashion related to everyone's safety.
I feel your hearts in the right place just a wee bit miss directed and you may certainly type before thinking (You're probably a passionate one, nothing wrong with that ;)) . The last thing I want to point out is you say that you are part of the PLUR community, but then state "So what if someone OD's, thats their choice and their choice alone, the rest of us dont care we just want to rave", this couldn't be further from PLUR ideologies. "L" is to love all and to care for all. Yes if someone OD's it was there fault for either taking too much, not knowing truly what they are taking or testing it, or understanding their bodies, but to say the rest of us dont care and we'll keep on raving is far from the truth. For one if this continues they are going to shut it down real quick, have you been to a festival over-sea's , well I have, and good luck getting drugs in if they bring real drug dogs, because in the UK, Belgium, Germany those dogs be pulling ppl to the side left and right and you best believe that's where its going to go here next if ppl don't get it under wraps. An all those people who come to shows just to get high are going to find themselves in a world of hurt. I use to think that the drugs made me feel the music more and the connection to people, and maybe because Im 30, having been doing this since JR high and the people have changed, or maybe I have, but now I feel like its makes me and everyone actually disconnect. Everyone is so out of it now they don't know whats going on. I cant tell you how many times I hear " who is this?", they're not there for the music, they're there for the high and because its the "place to be" now.
Candice Michelle Shook says
An this is a little off subject but related; I saw a lot of people referring to the drug use that is clearly associated with this scene, but really its in every freaking music scene since the 60's. Where I think the youths energy (and especially yours since you seem to have a lot of it) should be directed is in the true acknowledgement of drug use and ramifications, especially in our schooling systems (yes, cold day in hell Im sure). It's like instead of teaching kids what drugs do, how they really affect/effect you and how to use them responsibly we're taught they are all BAD and to never do any of them, when we all know that's a load of donkey shit. Yes, there are some immensely dangerous ones, and some that are made out to be much much worse than they are. Since people are not educated in the true dangers or how to do them responsibly this is why more people get hurt. If substances such as MDMA were made legal and regulated by the government you wouldn't get people OD'ing because its mixed with a bunch of other nasty shit (like amphetamines/methamphetamine-now that shit kills ppl ). Right now you are attacking the dragon so to speak at the tail, take its head off and you've accomplished your goal. But this is a huge feat and I understand that, but its a much better and bigger thing to focus ones energy on than the kandi issue.
Candice Michelle Shook says
PJ, that is because a large majority or people (most of which partake in marijuana) don't find it to be a drug. In fact if you refer to this chart here on the severity of drugs and alcohol, its really not harmful; http://www.economist.com/blogs/dailychart/2010/11/drugs_cause_most_harm & this one shows the fatality rate (zero deaths by cause of maryjane) ; http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=004477 . Yes I can see how it comes off hypocritical, but maybe this might help you understand his mind state.

Personally it's not my thing to wear Kandi and I honestly think people look pretty ridiculous wearing as much as they do but, who the hell cares? Wear what you want. Banning it won't keep anyone safe, unless I'm not hearing about the people getting strangled wearing necklaces or something? It's an attack on the culture, it will have zero effect but to pass people off. Good job.
Daren Nicholas Abraham says

Ekaj Dnalloh says
They should start banning dreadlocks at hippie festivals because we all smoke pot and do drugs right? What about overalls at bluegrass festivals because we all drink moonshine right? This is pure discrimination. If I had planned on going to this event, I wouldn't be after the list of rules came out. You can say "it should be all about the music" and argue til your head falls off but the bottom line is you vote with your dollar. I go to shows for the music but I won't pay to go see someone who wants to strip away something from their fans. I won't go to certain venues because of how their security or staff treats people, or their outrageous prices (house of blues), even if my favorite artists are there. If everyone followed suite with this then we could change a lot of things for the positive.
Ekaj Dnalloh says
Daren, I got no clue what that means. I'm banning you from our vending booth because you have a beard, and people with beards are bad people. ;p

DJ Memes I personally wear a piece of kandi every day, because the bright colors make me happy and one of my favorite pieces just says "positivity," and every time I look at it I'm reminded of my friends who trade with me and all the good things in my life! <3 I understand it's not for everyone, and I can honestly understand why some people would find kandi very silly. I personally think wearing three pacifiers around your neck is much worse but that's also a personal opinion. I don't think that just because someone is wearing kandi that they are definitely doing drugs at a show, a pacifier indicates that much more. I go to shows sober and I've traded with plenty of other sober people, or just give them to random people, because it makes some people's day at shows 🙂 just a personal opinion here! I do agree that with PLUR we shouldn't be attacking Diplo, he just wants every one to be safe.

DJ Memes , I do wear the occasional Kandi bracelet outside of raves actually. There is something awesome about being at a rave, and trading these. At Sunset Music Festival someone dropped a bracelet that said "LOVE" in me and my boyfriends lap when we sat by the Trance stage. We didn't see who gave it to us, but it meant a lot. And it is in our box of relationship memorabilia! Anyway, I am almost 30 now, and you know, it is just something fun about getting dressed up like a Kandi kid when you go to a rave. Wearing a tutu, and being a little crazy for one festival/one night. Just like if I were to go to Comicon, maybe I would dress up as a Superhero character.. even though I usually don't dress like a superhero on a regular basis, say when I go to the grocery store, or go to work. So comparing wearing Kandi at raves and in everyday life, is kind of the same thing. I wouldn't skip an event because they told me I couldn't wear Kandi though, and peoples uproars are a little ridiculous. But I got to say, it sure would just be nice you know, if people could let people be who people wants to be, and just stay out of other peoples business. I don't see how banning Kandi will help minimizing drugs either. Unless they want to ban people from wearing shoes, panties, etc, as well.
Jake Knoll says
The real rave scene has been dead since the late 90's. All you 90's babies trying to bring plur back is the dumbest shit I have ever seen. Be original you fucktards. Make up something new, trying to bring back a culture that's been dead for over a decade is not progressing music at all. It's actually dumbing down the music community. I see all you dumb plur kids wearing kandi all the time. To school, to the mall, to work, and worse like in public when with their parents or respectable individuals. Shit I know if I were a parent and my kid was wearing kandi I'd be mortified. Just the shear embarrassment of knowing my kid was a poser and probably getting ripped off buying fake drugs.
Bottom line plur and kandi are stupid as fuck, and make the individual a target for ridicule. Do your stupid kandi plur shake with me, I dear you. All of you kandi kids know you didn't go for the music. Originally when you first went it was for the music. Now that you feel accepted by a group of people who wear arts and crafts beads on their wrists you go to these shows solely to feel apart of the rave community and to get fucked up.
Jameel Stokes says
If y'all motherfuckers complaining can't go to one fucking show without wearing kandi then don't fucking go.

Noah Richardson says
If plastic jewelry is a big part of your life, you need to do some reevaluating, If you can't follow the rules of an event, you probably shouldn't attend said event.
Said Hamideh says

I don't understand how kandi poses a saftey threat, i trade with nice people I meet, I've built friendships off of bracelets lol why not search for drug that are killing people instead of beaded jewelry.
Dustin Tirrell says
you are pathetic i hope you know that the people wearing the "stoopid muli-colored plastic-strung beads" are deff not the posers. the posers are the "bro college preps" that decided to hop on the train when dub step and trap came along. people who wear kandy are the ones who enjoy the music the most and have been involved with it the longest. i bet you were one of the ass holes making fun of techno in the 90s and now you care oh so much about edm but wont listen to anything other than dub step or trap its people like you who are ruining the scene BRO!

er, as one of those 'fake ass kandi kids' I find it hilariously hypocritical that he bans kandi for 'drugs' then tweets about the drugs he's on….
Adam Johns says
They have twelve thousands pieces of candy on them, some of those pieces are "pills" try and find em – the end. No way to search = no way to control and they've have a bunch of deaths so it's getting real serious. There ya go
Victoria Anne Sweeney says
Who cares about some cheap plastic bracelets? Ive never made them and you know what? I've had the time of my life at every edm concert i've been to and all I needed was my dancing shoes and water. Self expression is great but there are plenty of ways you can still show it.
Shane McKenzie says
He didn't make the ban and if these fake ass kandi kids who preach plur and wonna bad mouth someone over something he didn't implement. Not plur at all. It's turned into a fashion show with kandi. Go for the music and to be with friends not for material things like kandi.
Shane McKenzie says
He's a grown man and can do and say what he wants. When it come to venues and safety. They gotta do what they gotta do to keep ravers from dying because they like to over due it at these events.
Shane McKenzie says
I like seein ravers get mad lol. Plur brah
Chaz Kellogg says
Shane McKenzie I already do. See if he'd framed it as "we are banning kandi because it doesn't align with Mad Decent branding and it make me uncomfortable to perform around people wearing it." That'd be one thing. I have no issue omitting my cuffs and mask if that's what makes them comfortable. But given how much he tweets about doing lines of coke, being stoned, rolling tits, etc…I find it obscurely hypocritical. That being said, I go for the music always, if anything the kandi I wear is just self-expression, nothing more. If beads spook Mad Decent, I'll leave it home. I'm pretty peacefully respecting his opinion, merely questioning his motives here.
Maxwell Strahan says
I couldn't care less about the kandi issue although it's an uncommon way for attendies to sneak drugs in. If you're really banning it for that reason, you should ban shoes, clothes and have everyone shave their heads. I don't have to mention cavity searches do I?
Stefano Salvioni says
you guys are all ignorant. please fuck off before you insult something you dont understand. K THANKS
Stefano Salvioni says
Also, banning kandi does nothing to make your event safer, you just look like a retard
Stefano Salvioni says
since you guys are so insistent on insulting other people, Believing in something you cant see is the most retarded thing you can do. Your religion is retarded and does nothing to improve the world. All it does is exploit you. K THANKS
Stefano Salvioni says
Next time you decide to talk about something you know nothing about, please understand that kandi is mroe then just some "stupid plastic beads" im sorry you cant understand the memories that come with it. IM sorry you are stuck in your little square bubble in this boring world.
Eric Alan Geller says
Kandi doesn't cause death at raves. People lying about shitty drugs they are selling cause death at raves
Conor O'Brien says
O, I forget, enjoying trap or dubstep can tell you EXACTLY what kind of person I am and how much enjoyment I get out of going out to these shows.
Fuck. That. I'd say the worst kinds of people showing up at these kind of events are the fucks quietly passing judgment on those around. But honestly, I'm not even sitting here judging THEM, aside from when they show unnecessary aggression or douchebaggery.
Seriously though, what's so terrible about finding a certain subgenre that you are into??? Does it make my opinions less valid? If you're supporting the subculture/group of people that appreciate kandie for the sake of self expression, shouldn't you appreciate the other motherfuckers out there coming to do what makes THEM feel like they're a part of something or just having fuckin fun?
It seems to me that you're hopping on the elitist dick train dragging trap and shit through the mud just because it doesn't quite hit yr g-spot. Maybe you don't have a history of enjoying hip hop so trap shit sounds lame to you, which is all fine and dandy; I don't much like trance anymore. But come on, get the FUCK over it and keep your opinion off of the fucking "Run the Trap" site for goddamn sakes……
Glenn Jaxx says
Stefano Salvioni You can stand for something without walking around with 10 Kilo coloured beads…
Hector Elizondo-Martinez says
Anyone who hates on Diplo for this is clearly all about the drugs and could give a flying fuck about the music itself. If it bothers u that much; don't attend. Prob solved. You won't be missed.
Stefano Salvioni says
Glenn Jaxx you also have the right to wear whatever the fuck you want. I aint walking around banning Jorden's.
Brian Delancey says
I've been in this scene since the 90s, throwing over 200 events and I'm dismayed by this ban. Self expression is part of the dance community and to have a dress code to our community's events is going against what our scene was founded on. It's upsetting that Diplo is using something extreme like banning kandi kids from electronic dance music events to get publicity.
Paige Kristina Stajdel says
Are grown ass men seriously throwing hissy fits over some bracelets tween girls make? Smdh
Coda Timchuk says
MUSIC BE MUSIC : )
Tyler Layton Welker says
So Dustin, just so I understand correctly…
I do not enjoy the music as much as you because I don't wear kandi?
I am a college bro prep who ruined the scene because I wear kandi?
(Side note: I just graduated so I do not apply to this category directly).
Please. Tell me how organic a and real it used to be? How old are you? 21?
Please Help me understand your logic on this one, because this college prep (me) is finding many inaccuracies in your statements.
Just remember, if you're going to hate on college bros, many of the top headliners who've been around for years were likely considered what you seem to damn.
Justin Pfeifer says
If you feel that loading up on Molly and wearing "kandi" are essential to your identity, I feel sorry for you. Those things are superficial and do not define a person. I called you a shitbird because you're acting like one. The things you're bitching about aren't what life's about. If they want to prevent deaths of young people before they actually learn what's important to them in life, they sound like good people. You are sounding like a selfish and whiny child.
Christopher Tran says
You are so stupid it hurts. I literally feel physical pain because of how stupid you are.
Juan Gutierrez says
lmfao Teague Miles YoRo Carton you're the biggest dick in the world. If he's following a rule to make something safer, deal with it. Don't take it out on him if others abuse "the way you dress however you want", it's them ruining your self-expression. He also never separated his feelings for music from anyone else's. All he said was that if you are going to be so closed-minded on the matter that you can't look past the ban of kandi and won't enjoy the music, it's a shame. All he wants is the rave community together, but if all you can focus on is kandi not allowed, and not how it may affect someone else's safety, don't even go. YOU are the problem with ravers today. Grow the fuck up.
George Danforth says
I think your main point of misunderstanding is that MDBP is not, never has been, and never will be a rave. Diplo doesn't want to cultivate a 'rave' attitude at his shows so he's cutting that shit off. Good move in my opinion.
Jeanine Louise says
lol
Dustin Tirrell says
i never said i didnt like any of the music i am actually a big fan of trap i was simply defending the stoopid muli-colored plastic-strung beads i did not mean to offend anyone and am inviting to all cultures but when you try to put down one persons style then get mad when they say something about yours i think you need to re-evaluate.
Tony Chen says
"takes away our IDENTITY" You need jesus. or you need to detox on whatever you are on.
Robby Sanford says
Coming from the guy that promoted all age events and has 15 year old girls
Twerking for him…
Paul Kulesza says
This guy (diplo) thinks hes gonna change the game over night. Not gonna happen. The rave scene is a forever evolving culture that slowly changes over the course of time not over the course of a year. I've been here since the early 90s and am still around and all these push play DJs are gonna come and go, the real ravers wearing whatever to express themselves will be here long after these DJs and their cash is gone.
Victor Lopez says
Tyler Layton Welker ^Perfectly put!!!
Tyler Layton Welker says
Dustin Tirrell
"I did not mean to offend anyone" who is anyone? Anyone but the oppressed right now? Because you used some offensive words. And I quote you:
"you are pathetic"
" the posers are the "bro college preps""
" i bet you were one of the ass holes making fun of techno"
"its people like you who are ruining the scene BRO!"
Pretty anti-PLURist you are, using terms like that.
And due to the fact that you used not one period within the context of your last statement, i'm having a hard time following. I've said nothing bad about kandi wearers, nor college bros. They both have their shitty people and amazing people. You are the only one putting down a style here, and that is the college bro's.
Sabrina Ofallthings says
DJ Memes for most kandi kids it's more than simple beads made into a piece of jewelry. It can represent a bond made between people meeting,it's more than some retarded fad, it's culture! Kandi can be themed around events and even pay homage to the artist performing. You should think before you judge, and take the time to actually look into the many beautiful aspects of kandi trading. Pieces can be extremely detailed and take a long time to make, thus it's fair to say that kandi itself is the total embodiment of sharing and raving. It's all about getting to know the people dancing next to you,and it's about giving a stranger a piece of you. I love Diplo, but his actions do contradict his music. He's all about getting turnt and having a good time, but then bans an aspect of rave culture that he doesn't agree with…most likely because mainstream music considers kandi to be associated with drug use>So if anything, this should demonstrate how Diplo is out of touch with his audience and only doing what he's told is marketable.
Amira Banoun says
The only ppl getting mad are those who aren't in for the music, but they like to look cute for the social media lolol.
Jake Swist says
he didn't just ban kandi he ban gloves to
Jake Swist says
free water saves lives not banning items ..never see me at another mad decent if I cant throw lights
Natalie Haynes says
I like how they now bring out the free water stations after not even allowing us ice in ft lauderdale, Fl.
Ben Miller says
Sabrina Ofallthings Yeah, it's a retarded fad. Just listen to how stupid these people sound:
It's hilarious! You say all this "It's all about. . ." crap. In truth, it's all about being part of the fad. It's all about conforming. It has as much to do with establishing real, meaningful connections with new people as ecstasy does–nothing at all. It's shallow, and frankly, kinda pathetic.
Ben Miller says
Sure, and the shallow, meaningless connections established on ecstasy also promote community. Nvm, that's just stupid.
This is your identity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5chX2ve9cnM ? If so, I feel sorry for you. Just listen to these stupid people talk.
George Danforth says
Sabrina Ofallthings I have no problem with people wanting to express this culture at raves. However, MDBP is not a rave, and therefore it doesn't seem unreasonable for the organizers to try and distance themselves from rave culture if they feel that their event is being appropriated by kandi kids.
Gregory Bryan Moran says
Oh wow i go to all the trouble to spell out why people are angry and you guys tell me to grow up? Look. You are in the edm scene because its mainstream right now. I am here because i love the music, the kandi, and the culture. I will be here long after you "grow up" and get a mortgage and a craphole desk job. I will be dancing when im 80 to this music. And you will be long gone. Dont bash our culture because you dont get it. You dont see me telling all the bros that raving isn't about grinding on some ass, or that shirts that say "party with sluts" disrespect women and thats not what we're about. So, go enjoy your diplo show, which i wasnt going to go to anyway, since i really dont like his music.
