It’s been a second since Danny Brown put out a full-length project. FACT previewed an interview with Fool’s Gold’s Nick Catchdubs, who indicates Danny “Is in the captain’s chair with his music,” and has in fact recorded new material. But it’s not dropping yet. Catchdubs’ bold statement suggests the Detroit artist is taking a calculated approach to this album:
“Like everything he’s done in life, Danny’s gone a different route. He’s gone in a direction that suits him. I think that when he feels like it’s time to unleash this shit, people are gonna be excited. That’s the best place you can be in…You need to be true to yourself and you need to say, this is my voice, this is the way I want to get my shit out there, you’re operating on your own timeline. I find that very, very respectable.”
Seems like there’s been some soul-searching? Since he debuted Old, which featured collaborations with talent like Ab-Soul, A$AP Rocky, and ScHoolboy Q, Danny has definitely set a high precedent for himself. Most recently at SXSW, we saw him joining friend A$AP Rocky on the skit “Rap Warrior Ninja” for the upcoming season of The Eric Andre Show. Keeping the release date under wraps is definitely going to keep the hip hop community on its toes, but what would a new Danny Brown album be without a little shock-value.
