Music festivals in Chicago have a huge list of pros and cons. One of the big cons that is talked about a lot is the official sound ordinances put in place by the city to ensure that people not attending the festival and live in the city are able to sleep at a reasonable hour. It’s a sacrifice we have to make to enjoy a festival in one of the best cities in the world.
As usual, North Coast Music Festival announced a stellar lineup for its 2014 edition, and made sure that those that are not all danced out by 10 P.M. have somewhere to go.
If you need to start your labor day weekend off early, then Lincoln Hall is the place to be and kick off your North Coast weekend with Chet Faker and Mount Kimbie. Vibes for days.
The best part about Chicago festival afterparties is that with a basic knowledge of the CTA, it is so simple to travel from the festival grounds to one of the many venues hosting aftershows. some are even within walking distance!
Keys N’ Krates will be headlining The Bottom Lounge ( A five minute walk from the festival grounds) on August 29th. Their unique productions made from a combination of computers and real instruments will breathe a second wind into many concert-goers as they pack into the intimate venue. The MID will be a genre-hopping night as What So Not make their second appearance at the popular Chicago night club. Funk lords, Lettuce will be at Concord Music Hall with BADBADNOTGOOD opening up the night for them.
Househeads will no doubt be flocking to The MID on Saturday night to catch Nicky Romero. His performance at Spring Awakening Music Festival last year was incredible, and this year will no doubt be different. The Bottom Lounge will no doubt sell out, as they host Canadian duo, Adventure Club. The energy in the building might WILL blow the roof off the building. For those wanting a unique afterparty experience, sign up for the only yacht party aftershow. With a special appearance by Talib Kweli, the night should be amazing. The rest of the lineup consists of an all star cast from various funk and jam bands like Lettuce, Break Science and Pretty Lights’ live band.
If Sunday night rolls around and you realize, “Hey, I don’t work tomorrow because it’s Labor Day!” then worry not, because there is a great list of things to do in Chicago when North Coast closes its gates until 2015. Swedish house duo, Dada Life, will be packing The MID with all the bananas and champagne they can find. STS9 will be playing an intimate show at The House of Blues. Ookay with Wick-it-the Instigator will be walking down the street to turn The Bottom Lounge into a full on trap house.
The entire list of afterparties and ticket links to every show can be seen right here! We hope to see some you guys out there!
