South African rave-rap soldiers Yolandi and Ninja, best known together as Die Antwoord are gearing up to release their third album in early June, dropping fresh new treats left and right, all saturated in the pair’s counterculture appeal, leading up to the LP’s official offering. Their latest gift to fans before their third album, Donker Mag reaches the wire, comes by way of a haunting new music video for “Pitbull Terrier.”
“Pitbull Terrier” is quintessential Antwoord, a mind-bending union of filthy house synths and Afrikaans-inspired rap. Featuring gritty lyrical arrangements by Ninja and frighteningly sexy vocal cuts by his female counterpart Yolandi, on a thumping electro-rap beat. The Ninja-directed video features dominatrix felines and a raucous, rowdy dog causing all sorts of trouble on acid washed street corners and graffiti-riddled urban ruins. Antwoord’s frontman plays the blood thirsty dog wreaking havoc and spilling blood with a reckless disregard of the laws of mortal men, while Yolandi and her goulish demeanor spook and scare the way she does best throughout the video’s duration.
The twisted video is a wild fright ride that comes a climatic end as the ravenous, tattoo-clad pitbull gets bulldozed by a city bus. Thankfully, a whopping gob of Yolandi’s spit into the dead dog’s mouth does the trick, and at once, Ninja emerges alive and well. Really nothing out of the ordinary, as far as the Cape Town natives’ dark, covoluted style is concerned. Check the video here, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the June 3rd release of Donker Mag, via the pairs own Zef Records.
