It appears as if legendary Chicago House artist Frankie Knuckles has passed away at the age of 59. Though no official word has been released yet, fellow Chicago House musicians Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, and David Morales have all taken to their social media accounts to express their sorrow.
Frankie Knuckles was a legend in the industry. He moved to Chicago in 1977 to become the head DJ at “The Warehouse.” The music he played there would soon be called “house” and evolved into its own genre.
Named the godfather of house music, Frankie Knuckles was mostly know for his DJ abilities, and the City of Chicago renamed a part of Jefferson Street after him in 2004. You can check out one of his Boiler Room sets at the bottom of the post.
