Mad Decent / Jeffree’s have finally released Liz‘s highly anticipated debut EP! For those unfamiliar with Liz, don’t feel bad; Diplo discovered her in 2012 after hearing her voice on some EDM tracks and 2 weeks later, she was signed. Since then we’ve been getting little tastes of Liz drop by drop; a single here, a single there… However, after listening to the EP, its apparent why they took their sweet time getting Liz out to the public: She’s the secret weapon. This girl is going to save Mad Decent like Baauer did in 2012 (again, operating a music label is actually a controlled state of falling without a parachute). Liz really represents a new, fresh direction for Mad Decent and the time is ripe for her “Sailor Moon” bubblegum R&B to take over as producers start to play with the more soulful, 90’s vibe that’s been becoming more and more prevalent in the electronic music scene.
Now, as a millenial “valley” kid myself, I may be biased (the nostalgia factor is right on the mark and I’ve always had a special place in my heart for R&B… I’ve even had the great privilege to work with Nylo and Robyn Troup) but I loved the EP. Featuring production from some our favorites like Mr. Carmack, Djemba Djemba, and C.Z., Just Like You is definitely worth checking out… especially because its a free download! From Mad Decent:
LIZ shatters all barriers with the highly anticipated release of Just Like You EP. Featuring 5 brand new never-before heard tracks and her last two singles “All Them Boys” and “Stop Me Cold,” Just Like You puts LIZ’s originality and talent on display like we’ve never seen it before. She teams up with a diverse group of a-list producers including Lido, C.Z., Mr. Carmack, Djemba Djemba, The Picard Bros., Yung Oji, r.i.c. volta, Swørd, Colta, WEEP and Mike Parvizi to give us 7 unrivaled tracks that pull from R&B, Pop, Bmore Club, UK Garage influences and more. About a year ago, Mad Decent signed its first release with LIZ on Jeffree’s, excited to have the opportunity to showcase her unique approach to songwriting and style to the world. The release of Just Like You marks the enormous moment we’ve all been waiting for.
There you have it! Stream and download here. Personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing Liz perform live! Maybe she’ll give me an interview so I can charm her into being my bb get the real inside scoop on what’s likely to be the new face of Mad Decent.
