A little over 2 years after the release of his mixtape XXX, after countless tweets, performances, and a blowjob on stage, Danny Brown has finally released his debut album on A-Trak‘s Fool Gold Records. Entitled Old, this 19 track hip hop album features collaborations from some of the biggest names in the game including Freddie Gibbs, Purity Ring, Schoolboy Q, Scrufizzer, Ab-Soul, A$ap Rocky, Zelooperz, Charlie XCX, Kitty Pryde and Rustie.
Old is brutally realistic retrospective on Danny Brown’s life growing up Detroit during the 80’s. While the topics of money, women, drugs and the music community certainly aren’t uncommon within the hip hop universe, Danny’s grounded perspective is a welcome breath of fresh air amidst a seemingly endless supply of “molly rappers.” The production is top-notch and manages to stay interesting throughout the length of the album though its definitely Danny’s genuine authenticity that takes this album to the next level.I guess it’s just easier to relate to struggles than to victories.
I hear Bugatti’s are uncomfortable for sleeping in, but I’m generally not permitted around nice things.
You should take a second to check out Complex’s interactive interview with Danny Brown and then give the album a spin (stream) before its available for purchase tomorrow. It’s like a listening party for everyone!
