Dance music is making bold, creative new strides every day. In an effort to keep things fresh, artists are teaming up to introduce new sounds and push further in the exploration for the next big thing. Well the next big thing in the crossing of bass music and hip hop could be here. The biggest name in American dance music, label owner and crowd commander Skrillex could have his sights set on makes moves into the realm of hip hop. It is becoming increasingly evident that something big could be in the works between Owsla head honcho Skrillex and Chicago based lyricist, Chance The Rapper. The award nominated rapper for his acclaimed mixtape Acid Rap, could be the next member of Owsla’s diverse, growing squad.
Although there is speculation Chance could go with a major, hip hop oriented record label, a move like signing with Owsla could bring some material that is heavily influenced by two traditionally different sounds. According to a mix of different sources including recent interviews and social media activity, the move could be more real, and much closer than people expect. According to interview given by the up-and-coming rap star, he has a close personal relationship with the dubstep dynamo, as well as a working relationship, claiming they have collaborated on things already. Conversely, Skrillex has been singing Chance’s praises, referring to the rhymes as “fascinating“.
Furthermore, social media buzz has fueled the idea even more, as the two have been known to Instagram their good times, and exchange tweets. Boys Noize, a very close friend of Skrillex and one half of their acid infused dance music super-group Dog Blood, recently tweeted:
late night nyc studio w @chancetherapper @Skrillex
— Boys Noize (@boysnoize) July 17, 2013
And he isn’t the only one acknowledging the rapper. Owsla’s founding partner Clayton Blaha as well as Skrillex’s manager Tim Smith have given the rapper a nod on various forms of social media as well. All of these things point to something more than just a collaboration.

With all of these things considered, collaborations between Skrillex, Boys Noize, Dog Blood, Chance The Rapper and many other Owsla producers could be on the horizon, but hopefully there is something more to all of this. It seems likely that Sonny Moore could be gearing up to expand his already hugely prominent music label, and begin producing sounds that reach out much further than dance music. Skrillex could have a huge move up his sleeve in signing one of the year’s biggest successes to his label. Chance The Rapper repping Owsla’s squad could open the doors to some very exciting future hip hop and dance music projects
