If you’ve been following Atlantic Connection over the last few years, you’ve witnessed the metamorphosis of this top-tier DnB producer into one of the most talented and unique future bass producers that Los Angeles has to offer. Atlantic Connection’s production style can only be described as aural velvet; a deep, sophisticated smoothness born from years of pushing the boundaries of drum and bass until such boundaries were broken.
His last full length, Love Architect and the following remix album marked Atlantic Connection’s first real departure from DnB but with this new, debut release on SMOG Records, I think its safe to say that Atlantic Connection has transcended as an artist and he’s elevating the entire scene around him. Branding this style of music as “future soul” The Limit is a fresh yet clearly more mature look into the world of 808-based music and while each track has something special to offer, my two favorites are Perfect (She from the Hood) and Soundkilla.
From SMOG’s website:
The first track “Push It To The Limit” is Hospital-style liquid funk meets 140bpm with its R&B vocals and bright warm lead notes floating over the top. On the track “Perfect” we hear elements of hip-hop and jazz mixed in with some glowing pads and 808 snare rolls. “Catalyst” takes us back to the days of ‘Inner City Life’ – strong female vocal with a positive message echoing away over a rolling jungle bass and 808 drums. The final track “Soundkilla” is dubby bass roller with hints of jazz and a classic dubstep beat.
Eloquent, but now that you’ve read all about it, how about you give it a listen? The EP is available for purchase from beatport or you can stream it right here:
